Beginner-friendly

This cape is super easy to make. We’re talking minimal sewing, easy construction and super quick to make.

We are using a very easy stitch combination, that makes an incredible texture.

This project will help you practice your stitches, it’s the perfect project to zone out and watch Netflix while crocheting.

The pockets are also very simple to make, the same stitch, we are making 2 squares and then attach them to the body.

If you would like the ad-free printable pattern PDF, you can get it from Etsy or My Shop. You can also get the KIT here (includes yarn and the pattern).

Pattern

Panels (make 2)

Note: The ch 2 at the beginning of each round counts as 1 dc

Using your 8 mm hook, we will begin with the panels.

With a medium tension, ch 120

Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook. Then dc all the way across the ch. Ch 1 and turn. (118 sts in total)

Row 2: Chdc across. Ch 2 and turn. (118 sts in total)

Row 3: Skip the first space, dc in the next space and all the way across. Ch 1 and turn. (118 sts in total, counting the chs).

Row 4: Chdc across. Ch 2 and turn. (118 sts in total)

Alternate rows 3 and 4 until you have a total of 25 rows. Now cut the yarn and fasten off.

You will need 2 panels. When you get to the end of the second panel do not cut the yarn, we will add half a row for the back of the cape.

For the second panel only:

Row 26: Crochet 64 sts of Chdc. Leave a 54″ tail to sew the back.

Joining the panels

Place both panels ride side up, one next to the other, and count 64 sts on the first panel (to make sure we join the right amount of sts). Place a st marker to help you identify where the stitch number 64 is.

Using the invisible joining method (or any joining method that you prefer), join both panels using the 64 sts.

Creating the neckline

This part is optional but it does create a nice neckline.

Count 16 sts on each side of the neckline and place a stitch marker.

Now starting on the left panel of your cape (when looking at it like in the picture below), insert your hook, ch 1 to secure it.

In the same st work:

Row 1: [3 ss, 3 sc, 3 hdc, 7 dc], 1 dc in the back st, then on the right panel [7 dc, 3 hdc, 3 sc, 3 ss]. (33 sts in total).

Row 2: Do not chain 1, just pull yarn slightly and begin [3 ss, 3 sc, 3 hdc, 15 dc, 3 hdc, 3 sc, 3 ss].

Repeat row 2 two more times. Cut yarn and fasten off.

Pockets (make 2)

Using a 6.5 mm hook, cast on 22 sts

Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook. Then dc all the way across the ch. Ch 1 and turn. (20 sts in total)

Row 2: Chdc across. Ch 2 and turn. (20 sts in total)

Row 3: Skip the first space, dc in the next space and all the way across. Ch 1 and turn. (20 sts in total, counting the chs).

Row 4: Chdc across. Ch 2 and turn. (20 sts in total)

Alternate rows 3 and 4 until you have a total of 11 rows.

When you get to the end, do not fasten off, crochet a row of single crochet on the side of the square (this will be the top of the pocket). You should have 17 single crochet (1 per row of Chdc and 2 per Dc rows).

Once done, leave enough yarn to sew 3 sides of the pocket onto the cape. Approximately double the length of the 3 sides.

Now sew the pockets into place using the whip stitch method, approximately 2 inches from the bottom and making sure they are centred on each panel.
